No ifs, no buts - no education cuts. ** OPEN MEETING to discuss action to defend fair pay and education. Thurs 23rd Jan 8PM ** Staff wage cuts, talk of £16k fees, and now, the threat of spiralling student loan interest rates. It is time to call on our university to stand against the selling-off of higher education, and to demand an end to attacks on the education sector. We invite students and staff at Oxford universities to attend an open meeting at 8pm on Thursday 23rd January to discuss and collaborate on a new Oxford-based group. This group will work in the long-term to voice our dissent, and organise against unfair policies. ~ WE NEED YOU! ~ *** Last term, students and staff from Oxfords universities came together repeatedly to rally in support of staff industrial action for fair pay and against the privatisation of student loans, and sent a large group of people down to London to demonstrate against police brutality and the suppression of protest. These rallies showed that a growing number of us recognise the problems facing students, workers and our wider communities, brought about by government-imposed austerity but also with the complicity of our own university authorities. These issues are unlikely to go away without organised resistance. Over the coming months, there are several more opportunities to influence university and government policy. We invite students and staff in Oxford to join us for an open meeting at 8pm on Thursday 23rd January to discuss how we should work in future. We hope to launch a group after the meeting to make collective organisation easier, and to enable everyone who’d like to get involved in activism. We welcome proposals on what this group should look like or do, both before and during the meeting.
