No matter how many times Ive seen it or read it, THE NORMAL HEART - TopicsExpress

No matter how many times Ive seen it or read it, THE NORMAL HEART manages to turn me into a heartbroken mess. I was prepared for a watered-down film adaptation, but Im pleased to see that--in spite of being opened up and textual differences--it remains a visceral experience. It continues to rock my foundation. The acting was relatively excellent across the board, with exceedingly brilliant work by Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Joe Mantello, and Jim Parsons. It took decades for a film of this landmark epic to happen, and Im glad HBO has given those of us who love it so deeply an excellent representation of Larry Kramers master work. As a gay man, I understand why the play and now its film version breaks me. Im curious if my straight friends--both male and female--get the same punch? Feel free to comment with your thoughts. Im very interested.
