No matter, my heart still goes to our team, the Philippine team, - TopicsExpress

No matter, my heart still goes to our team, the Philippine team, participating in the FIBA Asia Championship for Men (FIBA stands for Fédération Internationale de Basketball) which our country plays host for this year, 2013. Unfortunately, our team lost to Chinese Taipei which, on account of our brewing diplomatic row with that country, is painful. True, the Philippines had been the champion of FIBA Asia Championship for Men for the years 1960, 1963, 1973 and 1985; but if you look closely at its roster of champions, it is dominated by China. The team declared champion in FIBA Asia Championship will represent the Asian countries to the FIBA World Championship and to the Olympic basketball tournament. We all know, however, that in the international basketball tournaments, Asia is no where to be found. True, basketball, just like any other games, should be played with the spirit of sportsmanship, not solely by the desire to win; but when we are certain to lose every time we compete in the world tournament, our national pride is pulverized to the ground. Accept it, basketball is a game of height which we, Filipinos, sorely lack. We should devote our strengths and resources in games in which we have good chances of winning. We should stop pulverizing our pride.
