No more than 5% of a park/conservation area needs to be developed - TopicsExpress

No more than 5% of a park/conservation area needs to be developed for #tourism #ecotourism #wapol According to Professor David Weaver is an internationally renown tourism research academic with over 30 years experience. The number one thing tourists want (especially the Chinese - 68%) is unspoiled nature. So all we have to do is keep our natural areas beautifully maintained, with a minimum of facilities and market them well. Economists are telling us we must diversify and we cannot continue to rely on the resources and construction industries. They say tourism offers a huge opportunity for our economy going forward. See this Deloitte 2014 report www2.deloitte/content/dam/Deloitte/au/Documents/Building%20Lucky%20Country/Deloitte_au_business_positioning_for_prosperity_2014.pdf . Deloitte place tourism in the top five opportunities for Australia. It is pretty sad when a country is so dumb that it can only make a living by artificially growing its population (immigration, 457 visas, foreign property investors), to keep a construction industry going (or dig raw materials out of the ground and sell it to smart countries who make things). We dont have enough water or capacity in our power grid for more people. We live in paradise. It is far better to live in paradise and charge tourists to come and visit, than to bulldoze the place just for the short term profits of a few developers and a few temporary construction jobs. It is not a sustainable industry. Tourists want to come to places like Australia to escape their own built up and over developed cities. Our unique point of difference is our beautiful natural areas. So time to take the State credit card off Barnett and his infrastructure mad merry men before they totally wreck the joint and reduce the quality of our nature based tourism opportunities and our own quality of life. Note only 5% of Chinese tourists surveyed said they want gambling. So who do you think the mugs on the pokie machines will be in the new casino? Not many wanted sports either. The Chinese sure as hell wont want a tacky artificial canal housing estate, being spruiked as a marina tourist precinct, smack bang in the middle of the pristine Point Peron eco-marine park of Rockingham. Total madness! WA needs Point Peron, it is only 45 minutes from Perth and most tourists stay around Perth and only for 3 or 4 days. What we do within an hours drive of Perth city is crucial for tourism.
