No on Issue 6. This is not about setting a dangerous precedent, - TopicsExpress

No on Issue 6. This is not about setting a dangerous precedent, the danger is letting the city continue to die the slow, brain drain, economic demise it’s been heading toward for years. This issue is not about condos, however new housing starts is not a bad economic indicator, if you want to discuss condos, go ahead, housing that suits multiple demographics from singles to retirees, should not be a negative discussion. Housing starts are a good thing, and while Catawba, Bay, Marblehead and our surrounding areas understand that “housing is a key part of the U.S. economy, which has an effect on related industries, such as banking, the mortgage sector, raw materials, employment, construction, manufacturing and real estate,” some Port Clinton citizens just don’t seem to get it. Taxes aside, projects that cause new activity, snowball into more activity, and in this area, we can’t afford to fight that. This issue is not about saving parks, it’s about two things: one, allowing Port Clinton the opportunity to grow economically or two, stopping any development before it can even be addressed. Developers work with municipalities, they do not wait around for petitions to get onto ballots to be voted upon at general elections. I’ve seen it said this is about the city selling valuable property. What is the value? Does it generate jobs/revenue as it has stood for the last decade? Does it have potential to be valuable, in the most traditional measurable sense of the word “value?” Yes, it does. But only if Issue 6 is voted down. No on 6 means the city may have a chance. There is no magic cure all for struggling areas, if there were there would be no struggle the country over. The entire US is hurting, this problem is not centric to Port Clinton, but Port Clinton has a chance to fight the decline, to stop the loss of more businesses and to add jobs, visitors, maybe even more families… that has a snowball effect from taxes to local spending. PC has a chance, why would you take that away? We need to fight to keep the businesses we have and give ones that want to start a reason to pick Port Clinton. We need foot traffic, we need more dollars spent in our city limits, in our county. We need this issue voted down. And don’t be fooled, this is not about the right to vote, if you are registered, you can vote. If you are not registered, DO IT, and vote. No one is taking your voting rights away. No one is taking your parks away, no one is taking the town you love away…. but some are certainly hoping to grow this town, and I hope all of you see the big picture, the benefit of bringing MORE to the area, not settling for less. The benefit of change. If you’ve lived here long enough, you know this land is not a new topic of discussion. How long will you let the argument continue? Vote, it is your right. But please, consider the entire community when you make your decision, do you want the same (or worse) PC five, ten, twenty years down the road, or are you ready to make Port Clinton THE destination spot, THE place to be on the lake? It’s a simple question. It’s my town, and I am NO on 6. I am tired of waiting and waiting for PC to be better, its time we actively pursue bettering ourselves.
