No one consciously gets lost, but that is where we are. Luke 15 - TopicsExpress

No one consciously gets lost, but that is where we are. Luke 15 Highlighting The Parable of the Lost Coin 8… what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ 10Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. In chapter 14 Jesus’ is focusing his time on those labeled as sinners. The “good church goers” (Pharisees and scribes) are upset with this. So Jesus tries to explain with 3 analogies: How a shepherd takes care of his sheep; How we diligently search for something valuable; and, The story of the Prodigal Son. ALL THESE STORIES are aimed at the **churched** people who see themselves as the good ones: Why do people who **CHOOSE TO SIN** get special treatment? Mostly, lost people don’t realize they are lost. During the children’s games at some rodeos, you’ll quickly realize, sheep LIKE to be in a herd. The separated/lost lamb didn’t get that way by their own intentions. It was an accident, or someone worked to cut them out from the herd. The prodigal son: NO ONE intentionally destroys their own life. Yet, even today you hear “good advice” on why you MUST spend your inheritance now. Since getting into debt was “good advice” all are surprised to discover debt is a drain on our lives. A coin has no cognizant thoughts of its own. If it is lost, it is just because it rolled someplace. It didn’t get lost by its own intention. Me? I get most lost when I think I’m doing good. People who are too focused on their job, aren’t consciously getting separated from their family, the Church, or our shepherd; but that is the result. Those taking on debt, for short-term needs, are always surprised to learn they sold their inheritance. Those just rolling thru life, can be unaware how lost they are. Fortunately, God is obsessive about looking for us. He will rejoice when we are found. Are we willing to accept that gift and re-dedicate ourselves to following His way? Just a thought.
