No one disputes the meaning of the word gift. Even a child understands what a gift is. A gift is something given freely to someone else with nothing required in return and with no strings attached. If something is required in return or if there are any strings attached then that gifts ceases to be a gift. Now, the question is: is salvation a gift? Well, according to bible it is a gift. Just look at the following scriptures and you can clearly see that the bible says it is. So, if salvation is a gift, and for a gift to be a gift nothing can be required in return, then salvation has to be freely given with nothing required in return! But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. (Romans 5:15) And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. (Romans 5:16) For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:17) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (Ephesians 2:8) Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. (Ephesians 3:7) But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. (Ephesians 4:7) mm
