No one ever went deaf by blowing their own horn!!!! As I reflect on my life I simply marvel at my transition. From a boxer with little or no interest in academics onto journalism and the acquisition of first a Diploma then a Degree, both in Public Communication at the University of Guyana, Thirsty for more I then acquired a Diploma in Spanish studies. Later on, I have returned to my Alma Mater to impart knowledge as a Spanish teacher; all this after leaving school devoid of the requisite qualifications. I have heard the naysayers as they pronounced upon my life saying that I would be reduced to nothing after my boxing days are done. I defied them all and furthered my studies against great odds and little finance. I have outlasted my staunchest critic who prayed for my destruction and prophesied that it would come when my active boxing days are done. Today, my boxing activities are but a distant memory but I remain relevant (unlike some of my critics). Least I drown in my own self-importance, permit me to acknowledge the input of the Almighty God whom I serve. He set the scene for me; he opened closed doors. And as I reflect on the long journey, I am contented that though I am not drowning in dough, I still manage to pay my bills, provide for my family and still have a bit left over to assist those less fortunate than me. Thank you lord for your goodness, thank you for your loving kindnesses, a big thanks to those that have moulded me; took my hands and showed me the way. And to my successors, brave enough to ply their trade in the ‘square jungle’ I wish to admonish you and issue the same advice that helped me to shape my life----“learn something more lasting that will stand you in good stead when your glory days in the ring are done.” Most importantly, put your trust in the living God and he will either direct your path or send the right folks along to pilot the way for you.
