No one thing killed Main Street, there were many things in my opinion 1. the installation of those 4 glass boxes tearing down the core ( I love my Moms dearly ) but when we moved into an old house on Grape street the German family that had been there left this heavy mahogany dining room set something today that would cost you a few thousand dollars, it was beautiful, BUT all mom saw was old so she threw it out and bought nice pressed wood from Sattlers. She dumped that old dining room set out on the street for particle board junk. That generation and a lot of the generation of today just see old, tear it down and build new, and Buffalo was energetic to say the least. 2. The install of a light rail system at that particular time, but Urban projectionists know that youre going to need it, because if the world population doubles from where it is now, the usage of resources i.e. gas, land etc is going to be drastically changed. Not everybody will be able to afford to have automobiles and a certain segment of the population will need public transportation. 3. Is the elephant in the room, race people in those days were afraid of Afro Americans, and Puerto Ricans, and every race had its little corner and you stayed there in that little corner you converged downtown and then you went home. Then came civil rights, Angela Davis, Huey Newton, Black Power, and kill the whitey now whites want to be black i.e. Justin Timber Lake, A. Thicke et al, and Blacks want to be White ( todays soul music sounds like yesterdays top 40 MOR semi rock ) black girls with long, long straight hair constantly flicking it from their faces. Whites are not afraid anymore. And theres a whole lot more different races in Buffalo now and the USA in general - my 25 cents.. ( inflation )
