No pics but I should have taken some. The other day my 4 year - TopicsExpress

No pics but I should have taken some. The other day my 4 year old daughter said to me, daddy why dont you take me fishing anymore. Broke my heart into pieces. You have to understand, like some of you, I was a serious trout bum before she was born. Fish 200+ days a year. Since her birth I have slowed down considerably. When she was 1 my then wife and I went through a terrible divorce. The next 2 years we did nothing but fish and play outside. I would hook them and she would reel them in. She has fought trout, bass, pickerel and even carp. She loved it. One day we fished so much we only broke to eat. When we got home as the sun went down she said, lets go again! She is a trooper and a tom boy, yet wears dresses and steals make up from grandma. So today when I picked her up she requested we go fishing with my bendy special yellow rod. (orvis fiberglass fullflex) Lol. How could I refuse! We fished a lake that was stocked with fingerling bass and bluegill and hammered them. The thing is, she always opens my eyes to the world around me and Iam supposed to be the one teaching her. When we go fishing, fishing is secondary. Alone Iam so absorbed in fishing I forget to look around, she does not. We spent more time watching a heron gobble up fish than we did fishing. I explained a novel about the bird to her, and she was only taken back by the beauty of the fishing bird. I always thought of them as annoying and trout killers but some where between my daughters hand and the shadow of the bird behind the sun sparkled water, I saw what she saw and it was beautiful. As we sat at home after and i painted over her dirty tom boy nails, I suddenly realized how much of this time with and without her has been wasted. No more working so much, no more being too tired because time is short. Thanks for teaching me again MacKenzie. I love you fishing buddy. (Pic from on of the few taken this past year) Many more to come in following years!
