No pity party here, just really grateful for victories in my sons life. This morning he was offered a job at Kroger. He will be the one collecting the shopping carts left behind in the parking lot and stacking canned goods on the shelves. He will bag the groceries correctly -- no eggs or bananas on the bottom -- because this guy plays by the rules. And I couldnt be happier or more proud. He landed the job all by himself without help from the job coach (pul-eeeeze...) and its good and noble work. I feel like everything we have been working for as a family for the past 19 years is finally paying off. So for every parent humblebragging on Fb about their kid going off to Harvard or UNC, just remember: some of us are popping open a bottle of champagne because our kid got a part-time job at the supermarket. And its a GIANT step. God bless all these kids and their parents.
