No road, only walkway being constructed: DDC NLCO CRY REACTION Srinagar, Sep 16: Reacting to the apprehensions of stakeholders that Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) was constructing a wide road to Nigeen lake from western end, the administration Monday said only a six-feet walkway was being developed. District Development Commissioner Er Farooq Ahmed Shah said not any road but a pedestrian walkway is being developed as part of the Naagar Nagar heritage conservation project. Earlier Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization(NLCO) had raised a hue and cry that the “road connectivity would be detrimental for the lake beauty.” “No thoroughfare or road should be laid as it would spill a doom for the lake. The road to the mooring site will leave a chance for more encroachments and more garbage, human excreta etc in the lake body, live example western fore shore road Khonkan and Brari-Nambal. The road will be destructive for the Lake,” the NLCO Chairman had appealed to the government asking senior officials to visit the spot. Prompted by the appeal, which also appeared in newspapers, the Divisional Kashmir Shailendra Kumar is understood to have sought a report on the matter from the LAWDA.
