No sooner did Governor Rick Perry announce early this week that he was taking action to address the illegal alien invasion on the Texas-Mexico border by activating 1,000 Texas National Guard troops, than the liberal press and Democrats began screaming and criticizing. What’s curious is how the liberal San Antonio Express-News has managed to attack Perry, and state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, and the entire Republican Party leadership of Texas in one editorial piece (“Perry, Patrick seize chance to look tough” July 21, 2014). Liberals continue to call the event a “humanitarian crisis” and portray all the illegal aliens as victims or children. They say the people are fleeing violence and poverty, and claim it is the “moral duty” of America to embrace and care for these hundreds of thousands of foreigners who have entered our nation illegally. The Express cynically wrote, “Despite a cost to taxpayers of about $5 million a week, Patrick wants to sustain this level of law enforcement into the future.” As if the Express really cares about the taxpayer. This is the same newspaper that supports a costly streetcar project instead of more buses. The truth behind their criticism of Patrick is the SA Express’ support of state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, for Lieutenant Governor. They have endorsed her candidacy, but refused to criticize Van de Putte’s sponsoring of state legislation that took away the voters the right to have a say on the sale of public park lands in San Antonio’s Hemisfair. At least Patrick is addressing problems caused by foreigners, whereas Van de Putte who took away citizens’ right to vote. Perry has taken leadership in this matter because President Obama continues to show that he is either incompetent or indifferent to the border crisis. In the absence of national leadership and action to defend our border (yes…defend our border), the state has stepped up and is doing what it can. The SA Express, in typical Saul Alinsky style, is trying to make Texans feel guilty for protecting our borders and for discouraging or preventing crime and illegal entry into our nation. We must stop the illegal invasion regardless of who they are or how old they are, and we must be ashamed of protecting our national borders. Listen and learn to RagingElephantsRadio
