No surprise that an MP from Calgary is saying environmental groups As far as I can tell, the only country where there is a systematic, multimillion-dollar, foreign-funded campaign to choke the oil industry is Canada. Then encourages everyone to share that statement widely. Given that it is her opinion, and given that she has no data whatsoever to support her assertion, it is just like other of her comrades who make broad opinion-based comments and act like they are truth. Given the sheer number of non-governmental organizations in the province that are scraping by on membership dues, government one-off grants, and fund-raising efforts right here in Alberta, Canada, it makes me wonder which foreign-funded campaign she is talking about? A similar comment was made by Joe Oliver, back in 2012, then Minister of Natural Resources for Canada, calling environmental groups “radicals trying to undermine Canada’s trade deals”. These are the concerned Canadians who got a leaked document on the Trans-Pacific trade deal, (that is being conducted behind closed doors as I write), and which gives foreign multi-national corporations the right to sue the CANADIAN GOVERNMENT if, later in time, this country enacts legislation that makes those companies clean up their operations. The current Progressive Conservative gov’t, provincially, receives a substantial amount of their election funding from these companies, and they meet with lobbyists from these companies on a regular basis. So both Joe Oliver and Joan Crockatt using similar words to fear-monger about concerned citizens - from Canada - seems very much like propaganda from these same oil/mining companies. I can see why they need to marginalize environmentally concerned citizens, because their government’s actions are so completely in contrast to what we need to do to clean up mining practices in this country and abroad.
