No tolled roads not in the Selangor manifesto: Khalid should not underestimate the intelligence of the people of Selangor. ---------------------------------------------------- Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is quoted as saying that the elimination of tolled highways was never part of the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat manifesto. He goes on to say that the Selangor manifesto did not say no tolled roads. Khalid however accepts that it is in the federal manifesto but he says we didnt win federal government. With respect, it is not so much the label but the substance that counts. Whether it is in the Federal or Selangor manifesto, it is clear that Pakatan Rakyat is opposed in principle to tolled roads and this is the position we took throughout the 2008 and 2013 general elections. Khalid cannot and must not run away from this. Khalid should not underestimate the intelligence of the people of Selangor. We all know we did not win the federal government. But we won in Selangor and this highway cuts across Selangor and Selangor has much power at its command to put a stop to it or at the very least to exert full pressure over the federal government to shelve the project. Khalid as Menteri Besar should be looking for ways to do just that. Khalid must understand this and stop giving out the impression that he is weak and helpless. As Member of Parliament, I again call upon Khalid to show us that he is committed to the Pakatan agenda which is, as I said earlier, clearly opposed to tolled roads. Khalid should put up a fight against Kidex and lead Selangors objection to it and use this as a platform to firm up on Pakatan Rakyats national plan to abolish toll. Now is the time for Selangor to show leadership and put into clear perspective why it is the people should support us in Pakatan Rakyat and our ultimate objective to abolish toll. On a separate note, Khalid should assure us that he is open to shelving the project after an arranged briefing by Kidex scheduled for this friday. He wants Kidex to meet us. If this is just an attempt at window dressing, a briefing just to tell us what will happen without really giving us options, then I think such a meeting would not be of any help. I also call upon Khalid to assure all residents concerned especially the Say No to Kidex (SNTK) movement that he will personally hear them out as well as they most certainly have a right to be and must be heard before any decisions are made in the matter. GOBIND SINGH DEO MP Puchong. Deputy Chairman, DAP Selangor.
