‘No vacuum in South-West PDP exco’ AUGUST 25, 2013 BY AGENCY REPORTER An ex-officio member of the South-West Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Seun Adesanya, has dismissed insinuations that a vacuum exists in the zonal caretaker committee of the party. In a statement sent to SUNDAY PUNCH, Adesanya, who manages publicity for the party in the zone, described as untrue “the rumour being peddled by people, particularly by Bode George’s group, that all the members of the zonal caretaker committee have resigned.” He said less than half of the members had resigned to contest various positions in the zonal congress, which would hold soon. “When the chairman, secretary and other members of the caretaker committee resigned, the affairs of the party in the zone were handed over to the other eight remaining members of the committee under the leadership of Mr. Adedeji Doherty, the zonal organising secretary, who is the most senior party official left behind. “Since then, he and his other colleagues have been handling the affairs of the party in the zone admirably without any hitches. They are supported in this exercise by the state chairmen of the party who are also integral part of the administration of the party in the zone because they are members of the Zonal Executive Committee,” Adesanya said. He added that the call for the nomination of one person from each state to form an interim executive committee was superfluous and unnecessary. “It would merely serve the interest of the sponsors and create unhealthy rivalry between the existing members of the caretaker committee and the state chairmen on the one hand and those to be brought in to replace them on the other hand,” he said.
