No, you will not kill your dog by giving him/her ice water. Dogs are like kids: when theyre hot, they will drink and drink until theyre ready to burst, which is why on a really hot day, you dont just plop down a huge bowl of water and walk away, regardless of whether or not it has ice in it. In just the same way you wouldnt let a kid (or yourself, if youre smart) guzzle down a half gallon of ice water all at once when youre overheated, and for the same reason: its going to cause gastric distress. If there were such a thing as dogs dropping dead over ice water, a) the media would be breathlessly reporting about it and b) there would be skyrocketing reports of dog deaths during times of high heat - i.e., summer. Neither is happening. The bad thing about the internet is that it allows people to spread misinformation in a matter of seconds. The worst thing about the internet (and life) is that there are people who cling to misinformation regardless of how much evidence there is to the contrary - vaccines causing autism, for instance, or Obama being a Muslim - and refuse to remove/correct the bullshit theyve posted. snopes/critters/crusader/icewater.asp
