Noah was out running errands with his foster mom on Saturday and one of those errands was stopping by Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, MD. Heres Noah getting a hug and a scratch from Kim (the manager). Noah was saved thanks to the hard work that Kim and her caring staff puts into saving what dogs they can (Noah was dropped at the Charles County Humane Society and taken to Tri-County the same day). Noah had two huge black strikes against him, 1 - he is solid black (black dogs and cats are the last to be adopted) and 2 - he has liver shunt disease. Kim and the staff tried very hard to get Noah adopted by sharing what his doctor said and being open to talking to anyone that inquired about him. Unfortunately no adopter stepped up. Noah is doing great being medically managed and Second Hope Rescue can not thank Kim and her staff enough for what they do under circumstances that are definitely not ideal. For all those that are slamming the shelter and thinking they dont do enough - if you arent part of the solution, you are part of the problem. If all you do is sit at your computer and gripe and share the horror stories - you are part of the problem. If you cant foster, you can transport, you can go to events and help the dogs get seen, you can collect donations of cash and supplies. You can volunteer at the shelter and help socialize some of the dogs that are patiently waiting. If you have been in the shelter and thought you were treated rudely, please put yourself in their shoes.... they have to be nice to the people dropping off their pets for stupid reasons, they have to be tolerant of the people that have had their dog picked up for the 5th time because they wont take care of it. They are not like you and I behind the computer saying exactly what we think. So at the end of the day, when I go in, if they arent all smiles, I have to think about what they have seen and heard that I am so grateful I dont have to listen to. The shelter has come a long way since Second Hope started and I am grateful for the changes that have been made. Does more need to change? Yes - But instead of beating up the shelter management and staff, be proactive and see what YOU can do to help. If you are not part of the solution - you are part of the problem. Thank you Kim for giving Noah the chance to live!
