Nobody has a mortgage on compassion, instead, as elected - TopicsExpress

Nobody has a mortgage on compassion, instead, as elected representatives we have philosophical differences and debates on what is fair and compassionate. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, we should measure welfares success by how many people leave it, not by how many are added, and that welfares purpose should be to eliminate the need for its own existence. I believe that the best and most compassionate form of welfare is a job and that we all have a capacity to contribute back in some way to society. Surely it is fair and just to expect the next generation to earn or learn and not be condemned to welfare dependency in their 20’s. Federal taxpayers through the Federal budget now spend $146 billion on social security, which is 35% of the total budget, and today I spoke in the Senate on the Social Security Budget bills, as I believe it is essential that we continue to ensure that it targets those most in need of our assistance. youtu.be/uo5As7jMH3Q
