Noor Inayat Khan (1914-1943) the great great great grand-daughter of Tipu Sultan, the 18th century Muslim ruler trained as a nurse and later a wireless operator became a British special agent during World War II. When France was captured by the Germans, she traveled to France and joined the French resistance and kept sending signals to the spy office through wireless. However she was caught, interrogated and executed by the Gestapo on September 12, 1943. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross.
