Norcos connection to Pearl Harbor is deep and profound. The first patients to arrive at the newly opened Naval Hospital in our community in February of 1942 were from that terrible attack and the WWII Commanding Officer was Captain HL Jensen, who sailed the Hospital Ship Solace into the fray and saved hundreds of lives in the midst of fire, explosions and death. Ben Crickette, a Norco boy, stationed at Pearl was on his way to see buddies for breakfast on December 7th. He survived the attack, but, his friend, Home Gardens boy and fellow Corona High graduate Ralph Fife did not and he remains on the Arizona to this day.
