Normal people, like my Facebook friends, often dont realize the abuse that healthcare workers deal with on a daily--yes, DAILY--basis. Most of it, thank goodness, is verbal. (Did I just say I was thankful for only verbal abuse? Well, yeah.) Most of the time, any attempts at physical abuse are from confused patients or those who have uncontrolled psych conditions. And sometimes--especially in the case of verbal abuse--the patients or family members are just assholes. I, personally, have been hit once, and Ive managed to dodge the other times. Ironically, what goes through a nurses head is this: I need to keep this person safe.
