Normally, I consider myself the Quick-Draw McGraw of technology...always quick to research and produce an answer to questions not currently embedded on the forefront of my intellectual capabilities. But this was different. He expected no less than the perfect answer...word for word from whatever bible translation he had memorized (probably KJV)...and he wanted the answer NOW! I was familiar with the verse, but before I could put my little thumb brain to work, he began proudly spouting off the ‘unrighteous’ list [1 Corinthians 6:9-10] of the many who would NEVER see the glory of Heaven... …because the Bible says so! The conversation started with our individual perspective of societys degradation and what eternal implications that left for mankind as a whole. And while the laundry list of bad certainly didnt weigh in our favor, I mentally smirked, recounting the crazy roster of losers that were chosen time and time again all throughout Gods Word. Hope, my soul reassured before being rudely interrupted by his religious soap-box moment. I would argue that this is probably the most nit-picked couple of verses in scripture. Its the one lump-sum section thrown in the face of those by others who are attempting to slander them spiritually. Yes, you are correct. NOT very Jesus-like. But this was WAY bigger than my friends piddly little soap box. As he ran down the list, I recognized the faces of so many other Christians I know who share this same misguided Biblical perspective, and it brought to mind something I came across the night before: Knowledge alone makes Christians haughty. Application makes us holy. [Andy Stanleys Deep & Wide] In other words, dont READ the Bible and think that your ability to spout off scripture makes you a better Christian. Jesus has called us to LIVE IT! I was still deep in thought when he closed out his list, sarcastically asking “so whaddya think now?” I think you should have continued reading. [v.11]
