Normally I dont do this but I was talking to a lady about teaching and my experience in the classroom when I first moved back to Arkansas. I had three young student, 3rd graders, because of the area they lived and attended school they were lost in society. But one stood out among the three that either could not read or could just hardly spell their name. Eric stood out in the crowd because he was smart as whip and could retain the information that was presented to him but he couldnt read to save his little life. After pointing that out to the teacher we had a conference with his mother as well where I was asked to sit in and give my opinion in hopes that he would start to get the help he needed. In that same class room there was a young white student who lost both her parents to the legal system and her grand parents were hanging by a thread to give her the best they had to offer. But she had a support chain of other student in the classroom who did not see color but another student that needed a friend and help. The only difference between her and Eric was Eric acted out and got in trouble to compensate for the lack of what the other student had the he didnt. That was the ability to read so that he could excel and keep up with the rest of the student instead of just being passed around until he was finally out of the hair of the teachers. This little girl was brave enough to let her fellow student and me a stranger, a substitute, of the problems she was having so that she could get the help and the attention she needed and craved to advance. In my childrens school even through their high school career those teachers knew me and especially the football coaches and principles at my childrens middle and high school. I was nominated/recognized in a parent appreciation luncheon by Upchurch Elementary in North Carolina for my presence in the classroom and the school as well as being honored by two of the schools staff and parents where I worked as a sub after leaving the military. I said all this to say. In order to stop the violence we need to embrace our community as a whole. Get to know your parents and teachers, teach our church about the struggles of racism and how to present themselves to the public. We talk about black on black crime and the racism that is associated with it but at the same thing is happening in other communities as well it is just not publicized like it is the black communities. My stories can go on but I think you get the point because I know people of all races whom have suffered abuse, being lost in the world and having no direction until some catches them when they are falling. Granted we cannot save everyone but lets save those we can. People of Ferguson Missouri and other place like it whom have suffered the same fate no matter what race, color or religion lets save those we can and in the end the world will start to be a better place. Stop further tearing down your communities and let us start to rebuild by making a change for all demographics and communities in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen! If ever a time we need to stand back and let God and the Federal Government try a case it the ones such as these. But where we interfere it only delays the additional outcome as well as the possibility of making a change.
