What the Colonists were protesting was not the tax on tea, but the TAX BREAK awarded to the East India Tea Company, LTD to allow them to sell their tea cheaper than anyone else, and still reap huge profits. Sound familiar? The East India Tea Company was the first multinational company to exert controlling influence over governments. Rich merchants and aristocrats owned the Companys shares, but the British government owned no shares and had only indirect and ineffective control. The company eventually came to rule large areas of India as well as some other areas with its own private armies, exercising military power and assuming administrative functions. Can you say: Blackwater? History is really important, and gleaning ACCURATE history from the monstrous, revisionist crap that we are taught can be a daunting task.
