Our run/walk seeks to raise money & awareness that while AIDS is a global health threat, it is also a major cause of death for Long Islanders. Cancer, breast cancer specifically, is also a major cause of death for Long Island women. Race Day Race packet-pick up between 6:45AM – 8:15AM. Water and energy drinks will be provided at the start of the race, mid-point and race finish. A sumptuous brunch will be provided at the finish as well. After the 5K there will be prizes and gift certificates given away by a FREE lottery drawing. USATF 5K certified running course starts and finishes at Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve in Merrick, NY (two loops around lower trail). Great event for kids as the entire Event is held within the park + Ronald McDonald will be there + post-Event performances by Kids 4 Kids NYC. Awards / Trophies Awards / Trophies: Top 3 male & female overall winners, top 3 masters male & female 40+, top 3 male & female under 12, 13-15, 16-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-85, and 85+. $1,250 gift certificate prize package to winners $50 to each winner m/f overall, masters (40+) and $25 to 2nd and 3rd place m/f overall, masters. $25 to each overall winner, m/f under 12, 13 - 15, 16 - 18 & to all 5 year age group winners through 85+. T-shirts Guaranteed to all participants signing up by June12 (your NAME will be on the shirt). If you sign up after June 12, we will have limited t-shirts available on race day. About the Proceeds from the Event The Foundation will be raising money for Center of AIDS Research & Treatment at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. The money will also be used for transporting patients for medical services and social gatherings organized by this group. The Foundation will also raise money to help children with pediatric cancer at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, Five Towns AIDS Community Services Program, Ronald McDonald House, and social activities for people living with HIV or cancer. Toys / Gift basket donation The Foundation donates toys to Steven and Alexandra Cohen Childrens Medical Center of New York, South Nassau Communities Hospital, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, and Five Towns Community Center + organizations supporting HIV+ children. Please consider bringing a new toy to the 5K. The Foundation also donates gift baskets to people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer who are associated with North Shore University Hospital, Don Monti Cancer Center, Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition, Long Island Minority AIDS Coalition, Center of AIDS Research & Treatment at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Association of AIDS Coalition, Five Towns Community Center + its AIDS Service Program, Thursday’s Child, JCC of the Five Towns Greater Food Pantry, Living Hope Fellowship of Massapequa, Congregation Sons of Israel, Circulo de la Hispanidad, Hispanic Counseling Center & participants of the 5K AIDS Cancer Run Walk who are living with HIV or cancer. You wont leave hungry Pasta from Giardinetto Ristorante of Inwood, wraps from Pantanos of Hewlett, salads from Runyons of Seaford, gelato from International Delight of Rockville Centre, heroes from Tamburinos of Cedarhurst, fruit from Arciere Market of Inwood, apples and bananas from Trader Joes of Merrick, munchkins from Dunkin Donuts of Valley Stream & Lawrence, hot coffee from Starbucks and bagels will be served. Who We Support In 2012 and 2013, thanks to your support, the following items were donated: $20,500 in gift items to people living with HIV and cancer, and $24,000 in cash & toys to Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, South Nassau Communities Center, Winthrop Pediatric Associates, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, Five Towns Community Center, Ronald McDonald House, and Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition.
