Norman Lear, a Connecticut-born Jew, was the creator and executive - TopicsExpress

Norman Lear, a Connecticut-born Jew, was the creator and executive producer of the hit 70s TV show GOOD TIMES. While most of us in the African American community found this show to be highly comical and entertaining, the reality is that this show made a mockery of the plight of black folks. It capitalized on the misfortunes and miseducation that was often all to common in what was referred to as the Ghetto It is indeed a stereotype for anyone to classify those who had to grow up in urban areas as less educated than those who lived in suburban America. In many cases we are even more educated because we have to learn under pressure. As to the financial challenges urban communities face, that too can be a gross stereotype as well. Im not saying that their isnt a need for stronger financial stability in the urban areas. Im saying that to classify all black people who live in urban areas as UNEDUCATED and BROKE is inaccurate.
