Normativity trumps profitability sometimes. It is so in the case of lipstick that isnt pink-, flesh- or red-toned in some way. The less natural / more dark lipstick shades sold by fancypants brands are often sold out at Sephora. NYXs cheap lippies in unusual shades sell out pretty much instantly despite being not very long-wearing (and not pigmented enough to show up well on me). OCCs lip tars do brisk business despite their odd texture, very high price, and unusual application style. Indie brands that make unusual lippies do quite well for themselves (and the only reason I dont try them all out is that they dont have generous return policies, point systems, or sales like Sephora or Ulta do). If the market were logical, every brand would be scrambling to get in on the weird lip colors game. But because beauty is supposed to be natural, they arent, for the most part. Its a shame.
