North America Branch of Lunsar/Marampa Development Association Donates over 4000 Dollars Worth of Food and None Food Items to Disable Persons in Lunsar By Hassan Bruz Northern Bureau Chief You can either refer to it as a windfall or a Daniel to judgment .But it is generally perceived to be one of the timeliest interventions so far made by any group of Marampa Descendants abroad. The various categories of Beneficiaries simply say, it is an unbelievable dream comes true. Others see it as an actual ray of hope out of a hopeless situation. I would therefore like to drive in this story from the angle of hopelessness in which the bulk of disable groups found themselves in the Marampa Chiefdom Headquarter town of Lunsar since the Ebola outbreak in the Country. The fact is that it has since been an unpredictable situation for most venerable groups in terms of eking out a living after the movement of people is declared restricted. I wonder what you would say as to the fate of the Disables in a situation where life is clearly difficult for even the able bodied persons. Certainly, there is hardly any better reason to submit for the mass turn out at the Shell Gas Station in Lunsar where hundreds of every category of Disable Persons turned up for a share of the donation. Some had gone out there as early as day break. The venue became jam packed between the hours of 8am and 9am, long before key stakeholders including the Paramount – Bai Koblow Queen, his Sub Chiefs and the Marampa Chiefdom Speaker could avail their presence. Paul Santigie Sesay aka Santigie Shilling is the owner of the Shell Gas Station in Lunsar and doubled as coordinator of the distribution programme of the consignment. He was the first to address the mammoth crowd. He gave a brief background on how the provision of the consignment came about from the Lunsar/ Marampa Descendants in North America, whom he said are very much mindful of the trying times the country, is going through. He said the North America Branch of the Lunsar /Marampa Association is particularly concern about the Blind, Deaf, Dumb, Polio, Amputees and other categories whose daily survival largely depend on hand outs. The Consignment which comprised of bails of used clothing, bags of rice and other food items, was estimated at Four Thousand United States Dollars [4000 US D] According to Paramount Chief Koblo Queen of Marampa Chiefdom, the Ebola outbreak has caused a huge setback in the development strikes of the Government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. He said the damage would be too much for the Nation to cope with, if the spread of the virus is to be allowed any further. He said even though Government has no intention of punishing its Citizens, yet certain measures ought to be put in place to stop the spread of the virus and its eventual eradication. The Paramount Chief said it is in a bid to eradicate the virus and keep the entire Country safe that President Koroma has thought it wise to restrict the movement of People which has now affected the Disable Persons in the Marampa Chiefdom. He used the occasion to thank the Lunsar /Marampa Descendants Development Association in North America for the timely intervention. Mohamed J Kamara is the Chairman of the Disable Association in Lunsar that has been in existence since 2005 with a membership of about one hundred and fifty persons. He explained how their livelihood entirely depends on gifts from well meaning People which can only be accessed when they are out in the streets asking for help. He said it has now become difficult for them to cope upon the implementation of the Ebola Bye Laws in the Chiefdom and the country as a whole. His unreserved thanks and appreciation to the North America Branch of the Lunsar/ Marampa Development Association was buttressed by Fatmata Y Kamara - the Chairlady of the Lunsar Polio Persons Association. Fatmata said she belongs to a family of 8 people and that her husband has long been redundant from the Marampa Mines. She said the decision to restrict their movement would have been unbearable if it were not for this great assistance. Similar sentiments were also expressed by Pa Sorie Kanu – a blind man in the Township of Lunsar. In an interview with the Sierra Leone News Agency [SLENA], Paul Santigie Sesay said the Members of the Lunsar /Marampa Development Association have decided to intervene at this particular time because the this year’s Christmas festive season coincides with the implementation of the Ebola Bye Laws which requires the lockdown of most Communities including the cosmopolitan town of Lunsar. He said Amadu Hunter Conteh - the President, Hassan Kamara -Secretary, Alpha Sesay, Agnes Wulaimatu Sesay and Helen Sesay were very much instrumental in ensuring that the Association intervenes without undue delay. He went on to catalogue some of the assistance this Association has rendered back home, citing another donation of food stuff it had earlier distributed to the Disable and how it also teamed up with another Organisation called Action Africa to donate Medicines to the St John of God Catholic Hospital commonly known as the Mabessaneh Hospital of Lunsar and all the Health Centres in the Marampa Chiefdom. Paul Santigie Sesay said he had also requested the Association on behalf of the people of Lunsar for the construction of a Clock Tower to match up with the ongoing rehabilitation projects in the township. He said the extension of electricity and water supplies to New Spain, New London, New Site, Old Town and Madigbo are some of the current challenges in the face-lift which Lunsar town is undergoing. He said they are in daring need of Electric Poles and Cables. You now have the opportunity to look at photos obtained at the distribution exercise of the consignment of food and used clothing sent by the North America Branch of the Lunsar/Marampa Development Association including the Clock Tower in Lunsar whose construction was funded by the same Association.......
