North Hills High Schools Academy for World Affairs and German Club welcomed German politician Ruprecht Polenz for a moderated forum with more than 120 students from throughout the North Hills area last week. Similar to the status of a U.S. senator, Herr Polenz serves as chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. Herr Polenz took questions from students and addressed German policy and response on various current events issues such as the Israel-Palestine conflict, increasing presence and growth of ISIS, struggles in Ukraine, the often overlooked importance of Turkey and China’s response to protests in Hong Kong.
