North Yorkshire Police An officer has been seriously injured in disorder in Harrogate - another example of the dangers officers face on a daily basis. We are appealing for witnesses to come forward to the violent incident. It occurred on Cambridge Road at around 3.20am on Saturday 9 November 2013, when a fight involving a group of men was reported to the police. As police officers arrested a number of those involved, a constable suffered a broken leg which required surgery at Harrogate District Hospital. The officer currently remains in hospital in a stable condition. A second officer suffered an elbow injury. He was also treated at Harrogate hospital before being released. A 20-year-old man from Harrogate, who was arrested at the scene has now been charged with affray, assault by beating and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He is due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday 28 November 2013. A Knaresborough woman aged 19, who was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a constable in the course of their duty, has been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries. Inspector Penny Taylor, of Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: This is another example of the dangers faced by police officers on a daily basis. One officer has suffered a serious injury which means that he will be away from front line duty for a considerable length of time. Although the injury suffered by the second officer was not as severe, it will be some time before he makes a full recovery. If you witnessed the disorder or can help to identify anyone involved, I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away. Anyone who can assist with this enquiry should contact Harrogate police on 101 as soon as possible, select option 2 and ask for Penny Taylor. Alternatively, information can be emailed to [email protected]. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12130194498.
