Northeast Utilities, the parent of CL&P and Yankee Gas, is proud to be part of todays ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of the renowned New Britain Museum of American Art. NU will have a new 600 sq. ft. gallery there to support this artistic & creative community pillar that hosts many great family-friendly exhibits and educational programs. Why expand you might ask? The expansion is necessary since the attendance has grown to almost 100,000 visitors per year and the annual memberships have doubled. The expansion will increase museum capacity by: • Nearly tripling educational programming space to allow for multiple programs to take place at the same time • Adding nearly 8,000 square feet of new gallery space to be used for exhibitions, tours and programming • Increasing the size of the Landers House ArtLab – a popular family destination – allowing for larger art creation and library/reading spaces targeted to families, including those with toddlers and pre-K children Kudos to this art and cultural cornerstone of New Britain communities and families, and our state!
