The camp’s location at St. Kilian in Cranberry has won rave reviews from the families of over 60 students who have participated each year. The modern facility accesses an enclosed playground and is quite conducive to our chess activity. The camp moved to St. Kilian in 2010 to continue a long summer tradition. Daily attendance varies from 12 to 30. We look forward to new families sharing an experience that so many others strongly anticipate and enjoy. (Note that the classes are wheelchair accessible.) Who should come? ANY K-12 student who likes to play chess, wants to learn to play better, or just wants to learn how to play. We attract beginners to champions! Students say the camp is the fastest three hours they ever spent at school. Pre-registered students will be offered snacks during a mid-morning recess outside. All Students in Grades K-12 are welcome though a minimal level of knowledge is expected (the names of the pieces and how they move). Students are grouped by experience/skill level. The instructor has taught a few dozen similar camps over the last fifteen years. We have utilized three very qualified instructors who may be available again depending on the number of registrants. The daily format consists of two approximately 35 minute group lessons interspersed with much supervised competition and the individualized assignment of written chess problems.
