Northern Ireland Music Prize 2014. Album #4 of #12: Malibu Shark Attack by Malibu Shark Attack Arguably the most unique proposition in this year’s shortlist, transatlantic indie-hip-hop duo Malibu Shark Attack are nothing if not unashamedly fun. Comprised of Atlanta, Georgia rapper Tribe One and Belfast-based record producer and ex-Oppenheimer member Rocky O’Reilly, the pair concocted their wonderfully imaginative, consistently impressive self-titled debut album having never met. Conceived and shaped over e-mail, the album also bears the sonic imprint of several Northern Irish acts including Tied To Machines, Linley Hamilton and the Wonder Villains, the presence of which lends the record a real collaborative feel. That said, Malibu Shark Attack, the album, is far from a frivolous exercise - something O’Reilly’s keen songwriting knack and Tribe One’s masterful lyrical prowess goes some distance to confirm. https://youtube/watch?v=bPokrXo4vLM
