Northern Negros Natural Park was declared a protected area in 2005. It is the largest protected area in the province Negros Occidental in the Visayas, covering more than 80000 ha. It is home to such exotic animals as the Philippine Spotted Deer and the Visayan Warty Pig. Both are endangered species. Yesterday we visited Patag, Silay, a very nice mountain resort not far from Bacolod, the capital of Negros Occidental. Patag has huge potential for tourism. There are organic farms, waterfalls, hot springs and great trekking opportunities. Patag is located at about 900 metres elevation and has a pleasant climate. Views are fantastic. We hiked down to the Pulang Tubig waterfall which was once again not a walk in the park. We were guided to the falls by Sherwin and Angelito. The trail was not easy going up and down with lots of rocks and we had to cross a stream several times. The mossy forest was beautiful with lots of different ferns. The waterfall is stunning. Pulang Tubig means ‘red water’ in local language referring to the blood of Japanese soldiers that coloured the water in World War Two. In 1945 the Japanese Imperial Army made its last stand on Negros in this area. I love Patag and will certainly be back. #philippines #negrosoccidental #patag #authenticphilippines #philippinen #authenticphilippinestravel
