Northern, Southern leaders, Jonathan for political summit Tuesday, 13 August 2013 Project Nigeria (National Consensus Group) and the Nigeria Political Summit Group (NPSG), the joint conveners of the forthcoming National Political Retreat scheduled to hold from September 2nd to 5th wishes to clarify once again that the long awaited summit is convened to initiate popular dialogue on the stability and security of Nigeria among key Nigerian leaders of thought from the northern and southern parts of the country. Consequently, the summit secretariat wishes to inform that the apex of Project Nigeria will hold a crucial parley in Abuja sometimes this month to approve the draft modality and tentative selection of delegates and observers for the national political retreat. The pre-summit meeting is expected to be attended by both Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule and Professor Ben Nwabueze, joint chairmen of Project Nigeria as well as leading members of the summit secretariat among others. According to a draft programme released by the summit secretariat on Monday in Abuja, some of the key participants already nominated to play strategic roles at National Political Retreat are all former Presidents/Heads of State and their deputies, all former governors and their deputies, all former service chiefs, 21 eminent leaders of thought from each of the six geo-political zones in the country, three first class traditional rulers from each of the six geo-political zones, six national Muslim leaders and six Christian leaders from across the nation, 18 leading women advocates in the country, 18 labour and civil society leaders, 18 youths from across the federation, six leaders of persons living with disabilities and 21 national leaders of leading political parties in the country. President Goodluck Jonathan is also expected to lead a high powered delegation of the Federal Government to the summit, which will include President of the Senate, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and some relevant ministers and officials of government. Others are state governors and their speakers among others. It is also expected that the president, while responding to the positions of select leaders of the delegations nominated to make brief remarks at the summit, shall be required to give a crucial address on the state and future of Nigeria at the national retreat. Some of the key figures already proposed and nominated by the summit secretariat to facilitate discussions and negotiations at the summit include General Yakubu Gowon, Professor Wole Soyinka, Dr Ahmed Joda, General Alani Akinrinade, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Chief Olu Falae, Olisa Agbakoba, Comrade Abduwaheed Omar, Professor Jerry Gana, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Bishop Mathew Kukah, Sheik Ahmed Lemu, Professor Pat Utomi among other leaders from the northern and southern divide of the country. The two day summit is expected to be jointly chaired by General T.Y. Danjuma and Chief Emeka Anyaoku, while the keynote address is to be delivered by Professor Ben Nwabueze, Chair of Project Nigeria
