Northern autumn begins today. The change of seasons occurs at 4:44 p.m. EDT (20:44 UT) on Sunday, Sept. 22nd, when the Sun crosses the equator heading south. The crossing also marks the beginning of southern spring. For reasons researchers do not fully understand, this is a good time of year for auroras. During the weeks around equinoxes, even gentle gusts of solar wind can spark a nice display of Northern Lights -Space Weather-
