Northwest Boxer Rescue has, on average, two dogs at any given time that are on a raw diet. This means no grains, no processed anything, no preservatives, no cooking..... just raw meat, bone, produce, and supplements. It is used with dogs that have immune diseases and dogs who are highly allergic, so that we can control exactly what is in their food. This costs us approximately $800 a quarter. One such example is Frankie. This sweet, fun loving gal has Lupus. When she is switched off a raw diet, or her supplements reduced or changed, it causes flare ups in her system, resulting in needing prednisone doses. This steroid causes her to have bladder issues and behavior changes so we try to avoid it at all costs.
