Not a good new year for everyone. Israel and of course, the US - TopicsExpress

Not a good new year for everyone. Israel and of course, the US voted against the UN security council move to fix a 3 year time limit on peace negotiations to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine which is of course an illegal occupation. If nine countries had voted, as expected, in favour of the motion the US had made clear it would use the veto to block the motion. According to the Guardian (theguardian/world/2014/dec/31/us-israel-un-reject-palestinian-resolution-nigeria-security-council), “Even half an hour before the vote, Nigeria indicated it was committed to voting for the resolution” but Kerry and Netanyahu applied last minute pressure to swing the vote. The US, Israel’s closest ally, had made clear it opposed the set timetable in the draft resolution, insisting instead on a negotiated peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians. This is obviously ludicrous as it is clear to anyone that the confiscation of Palestinian land and the massive colony building plan are the real obstacles to peace negotiations. bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east Jan 10, 2014 - Israel announces plans to build more than 1400 new homes in Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
