Not a very good idea. Hummingbirds are too fragile. One ran into our huge window in our mountain home and was struggling to get up. But hummingbirds cant stand on their feet unless they can grasp something, like a small limb (something I learned later!). I gently scooped it up. It looked like a wing was broken and one of its feet was held against its belly and looked damaged. I knew what I needed to do. This little guy was too injured to live. I couldnt bring myself to the mercy killing. Instead, holding the little guy, I went to the kitchen. I quickly made a sugar/water hummingbird syrup. I took it back outside. It was eager to drink from the teaspoon. Within a few minutes it pulled the wing in. I got a tiny twig and encouraged it to sit on it. Finally, it was able to grasp it. Even the crippled foot was able to open. It was clutching the twig using both feet. It continued to get drinks of the syrup in the spoon. Suddenly, it flew, not too far, and landed on the side of one of the log railings on the deck. I was able to secure it in my hand. We could hear chatter and see other hummingbirds flitting around the deck. It flew again. It was obvious that it was not altogether well, but I determined that I would leave it be.
