Not even in office yet and already Greg Abbott has sicced his lapdog, interim chief of staff Daniel Hodge, on longtime Director of the Texas Music Office, Casey Monahan, a man who has helped Texas music professionals and providers connect with audiences worldwide. Along with Stephen Ray and Marc Fort, Caseys efforts have paid off handsomely for thousands of musicians for the past 15 years. If this is the first of a series of forehead-slapping miscues and outright disasters for Abbott--he may well try to eliminate the entire office--he has certainly picked the wrong place to plan his putsch. Casey brought professionalism to the Governors office in every way, and I,for one, deplore his termination, scheduled for February. Hands off our culture, Abbott--and good luck to Casey in the meantime!
