Not hiding. Often it seems like those of us from inner-city are forced to hide who our friends are. I am so proud of Councilmember Rasheed Wyatt and CDC director Janice White. We grew up together and before being public servants, we were serving the public when we started one of the first anti-violence groups “Concerned Citizens Against Violence” more than 25 years ago. We all have tried to leave Buffalo and two of us did for a short time, but our hearts were here and we returned to work in our home of birth. Rasheed announced his youth initiative today and Janice is doing her thing in helping to rebuild one of the most neglected areas of Buffalo. I am not hiding the fact that all three of us had very supportive parents, very supportive churches and most importantly very strong faith. Critics have tried to make our friendship and commitment into something negative, but unfortunately for them, it’s just three people who love God, love their community and love being servants who are not criminals, thugs or negative. Buffalo we thank you for allowing us to serve the public and to help the dreams of others become a reality. We were doing it before we were elected or paid, it’s in our hearts. #threeservants
