Not in any way saying this is necessarily the best track of the year, nor even my favorite, but I think it is the most futuristic and forward thinking piece that combines as many elements of music up to this point in time into a single cohesive piece. Squaerpusher asked himself if machines could make emotional music. The first minute or so is minimalist polyrhythms only robot fingers could make real, leading into jazz virtuosity and an eventual thrash beat played with the utmost in subtlety. The sweeps in the solo would have Paul Waggoner curled into the fetal position. Truly, one of the greatest attempts at merging the cold, raw talent of machines, with the intuitive nature of human musicianship, which no one but the pusher of squares could have accomplished. By the end, I daresay he has answered that question, at least for me.
