Not long after I saw the big old Korg tuners, years ago, I thought if a tuner can make a needle move to show flat or sharp, why couldnt it be connected to servo-motors and move the actual tuning gear - a self tuning guitar? Gibson announced it was coming out with such a thing about ten years ago. Ive never seen one. It could do various different tunings at the push of a button. I prefer acoustic tuning in a quiet room. But anyone who has tried to tune on stage knows how valuable the electronic tuners can be. But as a guitar teacher, I think students, due to the use of tuners, fail to understand the rule of 5 frets and the repeating nature of the notes on the fingerboard. Technological progress loses a little, but, hopefully, gains more.
