Not long ago I made the mistake of leaving a chair near my counters when I went out. Dieter, my trouble child as I call him, has always been the one I needed to tie or secure the garbage can from, tie or secure the pantry from and make certain food is not accessible via chairs or other items he can climb and/or jump on. He had opened my pantry one night and climbed two shelves to get the 5 pound peanut butter jar out and popped the lid so he could consume 1 pound of peanut butter. I had to induce vomiting to prevent him from getting pancreatitis. He also opened the drawers in my kitchen one time and used them to get on the counter to get into the cupboard so he could get into the bakers chocolate. He used the toilet to get into the top drawer in the bathroom and get into the Phillips Soft Chews (did you know that a Dachshund is 90% poop?). So, when I came home and spotted that the treat jar was missing from behind my sink in the kitchen, I was certain Dieter had struck again. I turned to find this - not his trust in me and his happy demeanor after his rescue. This is the same dog I spent years rebuilding using positive, force free methods and his sense of humor and happy reactions to my returning home is so worth the time I spent.
