Not looking for opinions, thats what my vets are for. But Im wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue or experience with their horses. Three full weeks ago my 6yo gelding and I were 10 minutes into a dressage lesson when he just went completely berserk which is not like him at all. We striped his tack, took his vitals (all normal), and tried palpating his back while we were on the phone with the vet. We found sensitivity near his SI joint and then, without anyone/anything touching him, the muscle just balled up hard and started spasming underneath the skin. Vet ordered cold hosing, a tapering dose of Banamine, and pasture rest. By day 4-5 the heat and inflammation was almost gone. After a week he got a chiro adjustment with acupuncture where the vet found that he was really uneven in his hips (high/low) and she felt that might have been the initial cause of the muscle sprain. After the chiro he was prescribed 10 days of Previcox (NSAIDs which are less likely to upset his very ulcer prone GI tract) with hand walking first 5 days then walking for 20-30 mins U/S. After he came off the meds we did a lameness work up which was sadly inconclusive. Flexions were negative for joint issues, hooves were all fine, tendons/ligaments/limbs were all good. Only positive we got was continued sensitivity of the muscles around the SI joint with mild pain response to pressure on the dorsal spine column. Without a true diagnosis we cant create a treatment so were considering the next move to be taking him to the vet school for a bone scan/ultrasound/radiographs of the area. If anyone else has had an experience like this Id love to hear what came of your situation!
