Not much fiction reading today because I am redesigning the character profiles of my 10 protagonists to maximize the amount of conflict via differing personality types without losing the ability to successfully work together when on the surface of it they should not be able to do so. This is a fine line to walk but when you think about most stories that uses groups of protagonists that has a balance between conflict and teamwork, getting on each others nerves while each contributes their unique skills to get the job done is fairly successful when used. Conflict is key to a great story and the more conflict an author has the better the story. Most authors rely on a personality classification model to create characters whether the old straight up Ancient Greek model (I believe that C.S. Lewis used this model), or the Myers-Briggs model, or the Keirsey model, or the True Colors model and I use the latter model because it is both the most accurate, comprehensive, & successful model and I am a certified instructor in it so I know it extremely well. However, have to retool character traits and leave room for specific character development is basically going back to step #1 when it comes to your characters. I love George R.R. Martin because he is the king of well developed characters and conflict across the board and I do not like J.R.R. Tolkien because he is lousy at it. The tv shows that are best at this are NCIS & The Big Bang Theory.
