Not much news over the weekend, so look through here at your club to see where they are positioned after the first week of trading and free agency. ADELAIDE With no draft picks, the Crows are finding it difficult to get a trade done to lure SA talent, Jared Polec. There were murmurs during the week that Collingwood couldve been utilised to organise a three-way trade that would see Ricky Henderson at Collingwood, the Pies second round to Brisbane (higher than Ports) and Polec to the Crows. It does however look likely that Jarryd Lyons may be used to bring Polec to West Lakes, however expect this deal to play out deep into the coming week. Bernice Vince met with Melbourne on Friday, despite the Crows saying he would not be traded. Xavier Ellis looms as a potential recruit, and would cap off a decent free agency period for the Crows who acquired Eddie Betts earlier in the period. BRISBANE The Lions are involved in plenty of deals, but most of these deals now loom to happen latter in the trade period. The biggest deal looming is the trade for Jared Polec, which the Lions have demanded at least a player and a pick for the highly regarded talent. The Lions have expressed interest in Jarryd Lyons, who could form part of the deal. Patrick Karnezis will 100% land at Collingwood, but with the Pies making him a low priority at this stage, it wont get finalised until other deals have gone through first. Billy Longer is now a big chance to stay at Brisbane, after he was shunned in favour of Ben McEvoy. The Hawks now have no first round pick to trade for Longer, which is the pick the Lions wanted for the ruckman. Elliott Yeo will land at either WA club, and the Eagles are refusing to part ways with anything other than their third round pick. Its now left the door ajar for Fremantle to make a play. Sam Docherty remains in limbo, his preference is Carlton however he has said that he would just be happy to get back to Victoria, which is where the Bulldogs come in. Theyre offering up Jarad Grant, which would fill a direct need for the Lions and could ultimately trump the pick 28, which will become pick 33 (approx) by the time compensation picks are handed out. The Lions have stressed that with so many players leaving because of homesickness, they are looking for a mixture of picks and players. CARLTON Got their man in Dale Thomas, but the Blues still have a few more irons in the fire just yet. James Podsiadly has knocked back offers to move to Fremantle, and looms as a potential recruit for the Blues who need more firepower going forward. After being pipped on a deal for Shane Savage, having the midfielder taken from underneath their nose by St Kilda, theyve made Docherty their number one priority heading into week two of negotiations. Pick 28 is said to be what Carlton will part with, which is unders given Docherty was taken at pick 12 only a few years ago, but would want to make sure history doesnt repeat itself given the Bulldogs are happy to trade Jarrad Grant for Docherty. Carlton have also reportedly lost out on Paul Chapman, who has chosen Essendon according to reports on Friday night. There has so far been no interest in Josh Bootsma, yet only small interest in Kane Lucas and Levi Casboult at the trade table. All three have been knocked back by the Lions. COLLINGWOOD Pies fans are growing impatient, and rightfully so given how their trade period is panning out. The Pies have several players in the gun, they are the following; Taylor Adams will land at Collingwood, that is 100% assured. But it all depends on what cost. Should Heath Shaw choose the Giants, the Pies get their dream scenario in retaining their picks 10 and 11, whilst getting Adams. Alternatively, the Pies might have to wait until the very last week of trade to officially call Adams, theirs. October 18 is when compensation picks are allocated, and the Pies may palm off pick 11 to GWS for Adams. Heath Shaw is still yet to make up his mind, and there are just as many reports suggesting he is going to Geelong as much as he is headed to GWS. Collingwood will hope he goes to GWS, whilst if he choses Geelong - it may mean Collingwood demand Geelongs first round pick, or at least entice GWS into a three-way trade. Initially, Collingwood were going to attain Jesse White for their third round pick, however the Swans have thrown in Tony Armstrong as a set of steak knifes in order to get Collingwoods second round pick. This deal is taking the passenger seat to the Adams deal, and will go through once deals for Adams and Shaw are finalised. Patrick Karnezis will be a Pie, but given he is low priority, his deal will go through in the final week once the deals for Adams and White are finalised. Despite Ricky Henderson undergoing a medical at Collingwood, its a long shot that he will land at the Pies. Collingwood are still showing a big amount of interest in Tom Bugg from GWS, and he too is considered an outside chance of getting to Collingwood, unless the Pies can bob up with an adequate trade. ESSENDON A difficult trade period is made more difficult given the Bombers have no picks to play with. Theyd be kicking themselves that this is the case, given they wouldve gone hard for several players such as Adams and Docherty who they were linked with early on. For all the crap that Dorodo cops, his points still remain valid regarding the Crameri saga. If he means so much to the Bulldogs, and is going to paid handsomely, than why not push for a higher pick? In the end however, the Dons will ultimately accept pick 22 which may fall back to pick 25(ish) once compo picks are designated. The Dons have been linked heavily with Paul Chapman, who reportedly has accepted a two year deal the Dons have put in front of him, after successfully passing a medical. His relationship with Mark Thompson is also said to be a big reason in the decision to sign with the Bombers. Another former cat could also be on the horizon, with James Podsiadly being hunted by Essendon. Given the dons are set to lose Crameri and Gumbleton, they will need reinforcements whilst a young Joe Daniher continues to develop. Gumbelton is headed West to Fremantle it seems, and the Dons could get back highly regarded Victorian, Josh Mellington, who at 187cms and 85kgs is strongly built, and can play a half-forward role, but can also play across half-back. Mellingtons biggest skill is his precise kicking, which is highly sought after for the Bombers. Reports overnight have suggested that the Bombers will get a trade done for St Kildas Leigh Montagna, however it seems highly unlikely that will be the case. The Dons dont have much to part ways with since taking David Myers off the table and reportedly signing up Tayte Pears, both who would be of interest to St Kilda. There could be a possibility that Essendon send of pick 22 to St Kilda, and perhaps a player to get the deal done. Brad Sewell has also been approached by the Bombers, details are sketchy at this point in time, and Leroy Jetta has asked for a trade, which will warm the hearts of Essendon fans! FREMANTLE Col Sylvia wouldve raised a few eyebrows, but now that hes behind the likes of Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow, Hill and the like in the midfield, could prove to be the tonic that the Dockers need. Given Sylvia has been relied upon heavily at Melbourne, he looks as though he may relish taking on a new role at Freo. The Dockers met with Xavier Ellis during the week for a medical test, and remain very interested in the Hawk. There is possibility that Elliott Yeo may land at Fremantle, but would be regarded as a depth player at best, given the current status of elite ball winners at the Dockers. Scott Gumbleton would be a welcome edition, and would free up Matthew Pavlich going forward. Although Pav would love another key forward to play along side of, itd be players such as Chris Mayne, Michael Walters and Hayden Ballantyne who would be the biggest beneficiaries in the deal, who would have even great impact with another tall forward. Fremantle have a bit of trade bait in Victorians Josh Mellington and Viv Michie who both have requested trades back home for fresh opportunity. GEELONG The scary thing about Geelong, is that you can never ever discount them from any type of trade, Stephen Wells just knows how to get things done. The Cats are considered to be out of the race now for Taylor Adams, given the Giants have declined interest in Trav Varcoe, who subsequently has told the Cats he doesnt want to be traded. But for Geelong, the interest now has shifted to erratic Collingwood defender, Heath Shaw who has become a priority this week. The Geelong defence has it all, but what it craves is pace and an attacking prowess from its back half, which is why Shaw is so highly rated by the Cats. Shaw would add instant speed and pace from a slowish Geelong backline, and at his best is the number one rebounding defender in the competition. The Cats may be forced to pay a high price for Shaw, who is still contracted for another two years to Collingwood. Pick 15 is on the cards, and considering Shaw may just be the missing link to yet another Geelong flag, its something theyll consider. The Cats have suggested that Taylor Hunt will be traded should the right deal eventuate, but it remains unlikely he will leave. Jesse White has also become a player of interest since the cats parted ways with James Podsiadly and given the late start to the season Tom Hawkins will face, they may be looking for reinforcements. Shane Kersten and George Burbury have more than completed their apprenticeships, and its expected one or both will play significant amounts of football next season. Sydney have shown a lot of interest in Travis Varcoe, and he could entertain a deal to go to one of the leagues most attractive clubs, despite declining a trade to GWS. GOLD COST The Suns right now are more than content with where their list is heading, and theyll see out the free agency and trade period without making a splash. There are reports overnight from Fox Footy that Karmichael Hunt has been approached to return to NRL as the Cowboys look to rebuild. Although Hunt has offered plenty to the Suns in his time, the two parites could part ways, which would free up a huge amount of cash that the Suns could look to using in next years trade and free agency period. GWS Taylor Adams move back to Melbourne is going to happen, despite his manager Winston Rous saying there was a possibility he would stay should Buddy Franklin not come to the newest club. Despite this, GWS and Collingwood have been in talks and a deal is set to happen hopefully this week. The Giants have put a huge amount of time and interest into Heath Shaw, and have offered the Collingwood defender midfield time and a leadership position, as well as an option to move into coaching post career with the Giants. They see Shaw as a leader, and somebody who can have an immediate impact on the young side. Theyve thrown the kings ransom at Shaw, and it appears that Shaw may take the cash to be closer to his brother at the Swans. Should Shaw want to head to the leagues newest club, Taylor Adams will be involved with the deal, which would please both clubs. The Giants have categorically ruled out trading future captain Dylan Shiel, whilst Tom Bugg and Matthew Buntine have been put on the table for the right deal. Collingwood and North are heavily into Bugg, but given both clubs have higher priorities, it might be something they come back to in week 3. Sam Fisher remains of high priority for the Giants, whilst emerging defender Josh Bruce could form part of the deal to see the two players switch clubs respectively. The biggest coup however, is Shane Mumford - and even more so for what the deal will be. Its expected the Giants will be parting ways with as little as a third or fourth round pick for the premiership ruckman, on the basis that the Swans know that Mumford could quite easily walk out on the club and be taken by the Giants in the preseason draft, of which they hold the number one pick. Jon Giles has become of interest to a few clubs, but it remains more certain he will be at the Giants next season. HAWTHORN Pulled off a surprise trade with Ben McEvoy making his way to the premiers, in what was a very good deal for all parties. The Hawks have parted ways with their first round pick and their first round compo pick for Lance Franklin, as well as Shane Savage, in return for Ben McEvoy and St Kildas secnd round pick, which is currently pick 21. The Hawks dont look as though theyll get up to much for the remaining of the trade period, and are setting themselves up for a big play at next years free agency period. They still have interest in Billy Longer but given they have no first round pick, that deal remains unlikely to go through. Brad Sewell is on the trade table according to reports, with Essendon showing interest early. MELBOURNE The Dees have their struggles, but unlike last year where they were able to bring players to the club, theyre yet to make more of a splash this time around. Despite all the fortunes of having pick 2 on the table, ready to trade - they cant get it done. Tom Rockliff and Luke Shuey have been approached and have all politely declined, whilst several players such as Sam Blease and Luke Tapscott have been put on the trade table, nobody wants them either. More startling is that nobody wants to be Paul Roos heir. The Dees fans will be hoping the Messiah - Jesse Hogan can deliver some much needed hope in 2014 after setting the VFL on fire this year. Should the Dees keep pick 2, Jams Aish is the best mate of Jimmy Toumpas and good friend of Jack Viney who would really add some much needed relief to the Melbourne midfield. The Dees have committed to taking Zak Jones, the younger brother of Nathan, should he be available with their second round pick, which at this stage stands at pick 20. NORTH MELBOURNE Once a basket-case, now one of the most attractive clubs in the competition. The appointments made off-field mean that North Melbourne should severely impact next season, and rattle a few cages given the incoming of tackling coach John Donehue, Cameron Ling, Leigh Tudor and Geoff Walsh returning to the club. WIth the off-field signings aside, theyre tied up their elite talent to long-term deals, including Cunnington, Thompson, Black and Thomas. The Roos are desperate for Nick Dal Santo, and will be spitting chips should he chose to stay at the Saints. Delaney will inevitably find his way to St Kilda, however the rout remains to be unknown. Its a slow news day today so we cover all the news from each club from the first week of the trade period. Tom Bugg from the Giants remains of heavy interest, and is more of a contingency plan should the Dal Santo deal fall through. After all the in-roads theyve made this trade and free agency period, if they walked away empty handed, theyd be fuming. PORT ADELAIDE Its a good time to be a Power supporter, the club is once an attractive option to other players, rather than a place players went to see out their days. The Power remain tight-lipped, but it remains more likely that Jared Polec, who grew up a Power fan will find his way to Alberton this trade period. The only worry for the Power is if Adelaide trump their rivals with players rather than picks, which is where Power cannot match them. Port dont have the players to use as trade bait, but more importantly have higher picks up their sleeve given the Crows dont come into calculations until the third round. Matt Thomas could find his way to Richmond, but that seems to have gone cold in recent weeks. RICHMOND Theyve announced that they wont be doing much from here on after successfully trading for Shaun Hampson earlier in the week. The Tigers have maintained all along that theyve been more happy to sign up their elite talent first before bringing in more players to top up. The Tigers do have a little bit of trade bait to play with, since it was made known a few nibbles have come in the way for Robbie Nahas, whilst St Kilda showed a small amount of interest in Tom Detrickx. Matt White and Luke McGuane have left for Port Adelaide and Brisbane respectively, whilst the club declined interest in Paul Chapman. The Tigers will be quiet from here on, unless they are approached for fringe talent on the before mentioned players. ST KILDA Absolutely flat out in the way of trades and movement, so much so, weve had to categorise them. Nick Dal Santo - Is in limbo with himself as to what he wishes to do. It is assumed that he might actually stay put at Seaford, rather than opting for a trade to North Melbourne. Leigh Montagna - Contracted, doesnt want to leave, club says he is a required player, Joey isnt going anywhere unless its for a bumper deal. David Armitage - Wont be going anywhere, despite being linked with a deal to remain to Queensland. Players of Interest: Josh Bruce - is likely end up at St Kilda, and Sam Fisher could be utilised in a deal thatll see the two players switch clubs. Luke Delaney - Will end up at St Kilda one way or another, whether its via a trade for Dal or something else. Tom Detrickx - hard to fathom but the Saints will need some big-man backup given this is an area they lack in. Trent West - also floated as a possible recruit, but that remains as a last option. David Myers - spoke of his wish to play more midfield time and floated the option of leaving the Bombres for fresh opportunity at St Kilda. The Dons arent willing to let him go, but may have to if these rumours of Leigh Montagna are true. Darren Jolly - has undergone a fitness test at Seaford and will end up at the Saints as a delisted free agent. The Dual premiership ruckman for Sydney and Collingwood will be vital to the development of the likes of Hickey and Pearce. Jolly would only be played where required and used as insurance rather than a first option ruck. Andrejs Everitt - a small amount of interest has been put into Everitt, but hed be of a lesser priority at this stage. Maverick Weller - A few whispers at this stage that the Saints will pick up Mav after the draft has come and gone, as they look to top up their list. There is no question that Weller is a solid talent, who lacked consistent opportunity at the Suns. The Saints are desperate for big bodied midfielders to drive their generation next, and youd think that Weller would fit that need. The Saints still have one more radical move up their sleeve, and it looks certain another senior player will be on their way out of the club, either for some solid incoming talent or for another high end pick. Regardless, the Saints have currently got three picks inside the firs round which will do wonders in the way of redevelopment. SYDNEY Always seem to bob up this time of year. Last year is was Kurt Tippett, this year it was Lance Franklin. But with this aside, Sydney are still involved with several deals as a few players look to leave the club. Sydney and Collingwood have cut a deal that will go through once the bigger fish are accounted for, which will see Jesse White and Tony Armstrong off to Collingwood in exchange for Collingwoods second round pick. Andrejs Everitt could be headed for a third club after being out of favour with the Swans. He has had interest from Port Adelaide, Melbourne and St Kilda. Sam Reid has become of interest since the Buddy announcement, but unless something radical happens, he will stay at the Swans and perhaps be trailed in defence much to his disappointment. The Swans are going to have to let Shane Mumford go for as little as a third or fourth round pick from cross town rivals GWS, given Mumford could walk to the preseason draft where the Giants have the first pick. There is still interest from Sydney in Heath Shaw and that one will play out more so in the coming days as Heath Shaw has returned to Melbourne and is ready to finalise his playing future with another club. WEST COAST The Eagles havent been as aggressive as much as they though they wouldve liked to have been. Given they only just appointed Adam Simpson this week, you can probably expect them to have a few more nibbles this week. Xavier Ellis looks more certain to go to West Coast than he does Fremantle, and the Eagles are keen to inject his leg speed into their midfield - that is, if his body can hold up. Elliott Yeo also has some speed, but the Eagles are going to have to come to the party and offer their second round pick to satisfy the the Lions, as Fremantle might jump at the opportunity to get one back from their rivals. Daniel Kerr is expected to call an end to his illustrious career, whilst there are some big whispers that the Eagles are going to make a play for Chris Yarran this week. WESTERN BULLDOGS Another club who have been fairly lacklustre in the trade period. Theyve made big in-roads with Essendon for Stewart Crameri but Essendon are playing hardball with their leading goal kicker of the past three years, and rightfully so. When push comes to shove, the Doggies will end up with their man one way or another, and most likely itll be for the proposed pick 22. North pair Jordan Gysberts and Ayden Kennedy have come of small interest for the Bulldogs, but might be taken as delisted agents unless a good-will trade for a throwaway pick is made. Sam Docherty has become the number one priority this week, and Jarrad Grant has been offered up in trade, despite his good finish to the 2013 season.
