Not one to ordinarily rave on I feel it apt to share a real status up date. I call this According to Face Book you had a good time (thanks to a dear friend). Sometimes you just need to switch off, smell the ocean, ignore your troubles, escape, and not think! We did exactly this for the weekend. I highly recommend it! Life is cruel, tough and sometimes very unfair, however there is always a story to share and one to hear. 3 days away not 2 hours from home and our family got to bond, play, be silly and meet some incredible Aussies and create some life long memories. We met a chap who was cycling around Australia, and has been on the road for 5 years, part of that fund raising for cancer and part for himself as a cancer sufferer. He just wanted to make sure he saw it all and met as many everyday people as possible to help him accept his final destination. His name is Tim Burrows and he is a true legend. We also met Pam & Bill, a pair of fair dinkum, you beauty wonderful grandparents who shared with us the last 4 years of there lives. If we had longer we would of heard the entire 49 years of their incredible marriage. However it was a joy to to be inspired by a 70 year old and his wife traveling around in their caravan because, why not? Over a beer Bill told us about how he had found so many free camp sites all over Aus, he considered anything $5.00 and under free. His stories were worth their weight in gold. From the minute we parked our trailer Bill wanted to help. He offered us to plug in to his van if our power cable wasnt long enough, how kind! Aussies you are the most generous people I have ever met. Particularly Holly and Todd who I take my hat off to. Camping with there trailer for the first time ever with a 4 month old baby, 2 year old toddler and dog no less! They offered to look after our three boys on Saturday evening as it was my birthday, they thought we might like to pop to the bollo for a drink alone! What the? I was already in awe of them as I would never have considered camping when my boys were that small and troublesome! I wish all the amazing people we met this weekend a happy life. For me and my family 3 days camping gave us so much that it makes me think 2 hours of peak hour traffic, 2 hours of sorting out poles and setting up is absolutely nothing compared with the feelings we all have today. Driving into our drive way tonight was a relief because we made it home in one piece, because I was looking forward to my comfy bed and snuggle pillow however it was also a bit sad as a big part of me wanted to stay on the road and see more and meet more people because I was so enriched and I saw my kids away from screens and devices laughing belly laughs and squealing with pure joy when they tried to catch a fish and got all tangled, when the waves were so big they got a mouthful of sand when they were supposed be be riding the wave in their boogie boards and swirling their sparklers while trying to count the stars. Or did the joy come from seeing a humpback whale, listening to Mum telling stories about a silly little mouse thats all make believe or was it from playing cricket outside our tent with our bats all the the kids wanted to join us? All I can say now is Im so glad we went away for 3 days, they gave us a life time of special moments. According to Face Book we had a good time! Ali x
