Not quite 9000 miles but pertinent today: youtu.be/fCNvZqpa-7Q?t=4m28s This is by far my favourite Christmas song ever, I feel it sums up how the secular can still find Christmas special and really captures the tone of Australian Yuletide culture. But it feels especially special this year. Work commitments and long distances mean that I wont see my family for Christmas this year, for the first time in my entire life - and its affecting me a lot more than I expected it to. Im not particularly invested in the holiday itself or its meaning or mythology or even the presents! Im also not really inclined to homesickness... but waking up today sans Clayton and knowing that we werent coming together for turducken and black forest trifle hit me hard. (Dont worry mum,) Im okay, but it really reminded me of how much my family mean to me and how much I value the time I get to spend with them. You guys have supported me through so much and raised me to be the person I am today. You taught me to build and sustain healthy relationships, appreciate the beauty of art and nature, to seek knowledge and enlightenment at every opportunity and follow my passions where ever they take me.
